Romeo and Juliet Summary of Act II, Scene 5
by William Shakespeare

Summary

Juliet is waiting on the Nurse, who comes in announcing that she’s too exhausted and out of breath from seeking out Romeo to tell Juliet what he had to say. Finally, Juliet gets out of the Nurse that Romeo is waiting for her at Friar Laurence’s.

Analysis

Scene V is one of the shortest scenes in the play and primarily provides comic relief. The primary joke in the exchange between the Nurse and Juliet is that the Nurse has the breath to complain at great length about being out of breath, but claims not to have the breath to tell Juliet the only thing Juliet wants to know.
