Fahrenheit 451 Stoneman/Black
by Ray Bradbury

Stoneman and Black are firemen. They physically resemble ashes and burning. They are the ones who provide the false history of being a fireman. Montag has a chance to kill them both, but knocks them out instead. He also plants a book in Black's house before phoning in an alarm in an attempt to follow through with a plan he and Faber had considered. Montag begins the story having everything in common with these two men, but grow increasingly distant from them as his character changes.
