1984 Section Three, Part IV Analysis (pp. 274-282)
by George Orwell

This section is important because it depicts Winston still trying to outwit the Party despite all the torture and mind control he has undergone. He clings to his love of Julia in a way he thinks is beyond reach of the Party. He knows he will be shot, but he wants to die with his mind not purged of the hatred for Big Brother. Unfortunately, the last remnant of his human spirit will be broken in Room 101.
