1984 Section Three, Part IV Summary (pp. 274-282)
by George Orwell

The torture subsides for a while and Winston recovers somewhat. He is fed regularly and sleeps much of the time, enjoying pleasant dreams. Winston has come to accept the doctrine of the Party, even if they say two and two make five. Winston struggles again with the meaning of reality. Winston dreams of being shot in the back of the head. Winston still cannot, however, shake his love for Julia, and he yet hides a sense of rebellion in his heart. He vows to die hating Big Brother. O'Brien then arrives and asks Winston his true feelings about Big Brother. Winston says he hates him, and O'Brien orders him into Room 101.
