1984 Section Three, Part V Summary (pp. 282-287)
by George Orwell

Winston is taken to Room 101 and strapped down into a chair. O'Brien arrives and explains Room 101 is where prisoners are subjected to that which they most fear. In Winston's case, of course, it is rats. Two rats in a special cage are affixed to Winston's face, and O'Brien threatens to throw the lever that will send the rodents burrowing into Winston's eyes. Winston suddenly understands what he must do and cries out for them to sick the rats on Julia instead of him. O'Brien then removes the cage.
